Mind your Own Business- Seriously! :P

a

Next month on 15th February, I’ll complete 5 years of my professional life... Yes, FIVE long years... ;-)

And... After devoting all these years to my work life... I sincerely believe college life was the best in terms of certain things... This nowhere means I am not enjoying my life now... Yes, I am truly in love with the life I am living... Financial independence, responsibility, having the freedom to speak up and manage my time and money as per my own convenience, having a social life without a stress of finishing assignments and so on... And being single along with all this is an icing on the cake.... ;-)

This phase of life is indeed one of the best that could have happened... But in all this there is something which was still the best in college...

I remember in my MBA batch we had people from across the country.... They all were quite diverse in terms of culture, language, persona but they were all accepted as friends and there was no judgement about them on the basis of appearance or anything... The only thing which actually counted was their talent and brain!

But, on the contrary, professional life is very different... I often hear people talking about others' dress up... Lifestyle... Food habits... And they rarely appreciate the talent, brains and the hard work... Seriously, sometimes I feel like asking them... is this the job they are getting paid for....? Or is this what they learnt all their life from their family & teachers... Where is that education?

Education teaches us equality, not discrimination!

In School,  I have learnt “Sangati ka asar” and trust me I don’t wanna opt for this mindset!

3 months back... while working as usually... I heard a dialogue...And it affected me deeply... It was-

Guy A (to Guy B &  Guy C)-  yaar, XYZ ke paas lagta hai ek hi pair hai shoes ka, do hafte se dekh raha hu wohi pehen ke aa jata hai...

Guy B- Silent

Guy C- Silent (giggling)

I mean, really? Why can’t people stand against wrong... listening to wrong statements and not taking your stand is equally bad.... it’s actually an encouragement to the one doing it...

And listening to this I really felt like telling him "dude, you need a life" is this what people are supposed to talk and do in office... We live in a country like India where many people don't get clothes to wear, food to eat and we can still manage to talk like this.... then crib about better government... What govt. will do when people are carrying such mindset... Where is the education, actually?

For me I know I am least bothered about what I wear, forget about others... And I believe that’s what I have learnt throughout my life... To respect people for what they are as a human being and not on their appearances....

You can't judge a person on a pair of shoes...  I am a kinda girl who may repeat a pair of shoes/denims for 2-3-4 months if I love it without touching 50 more I may have... How can we be judgmental about such stupid things... And believe me after listening to this... I respect the guy who can carry himself in same pair for dunno how long, but, I somehow lost respect for the guy judging it...

Whatever we say about others speak a lot about ourselves, so, when we point a finger on someone we should first look at ourselves...

Now, if I go back to my college days... this was something I never felt and in fact, if this would have happened in college I am very much sure no one would have supported such loose remark... That’s what education really means...

Well, I dunno... May be this is how most of the people are in offices... May be!

There were many other things I miss about college like fighting for lunch box, bunking, planning businesses etc. :P things but luckily for me that's not specific  to college only... I was blessed with such people afterwards as well... ;-)

Although, life is perfectly great in terms of everything but sometimes I wish I could change certain things which I believe should be changed....

Anyhow, thank you God for such a brilliant and beautiful life with of course lots of troubles :P.. I love you for being there... Take care of my people... Amen! :*

Are you too Working Late in Office!

Recently, I came across something interesting and would love to share that… It’s written by Infosys Co-founder Mr.  Narayana Murthy and many of you must have read it but I believe it’s worth keeping… So here it is dedicated to all crazy office worms-

“Its half past 8 in the office but the lights are still on…

PCs still running, coffee machines still buzzing…

And who’s at work? Most of them ??? Take a closer look…

All or most specimens are ??

Something male species of the human race…

Look closer… again all or most of them are bachelors…

And why are they sitting late? Working hard? No way!!!

Any guesses???

Let’s ask one of them…

Here’s what he says… “What’s there 2 do after going home…Here we get to surf, AC, phone, food, coffee that is why I am working late…Importantly no bossssssss!!!!!!!!!!!”

This is the scene in most research centers and software companies and other off-shore offices.

Bachelors “Time-passing” during late hours in the office just bcoz they say they’ve nothing else to do…

Now what are the consequences…

“Working” (for the record only) late hours soon becomes part of the institute or company culture. With bosses more than eager to provide support to those “working” late in the form of taxi vouchers, food vouchers and of course good feedback, (oh, he’s a hard worker… goes home only to change..!!).

They aren’t helping things too…

To hell with bosses who don’t understand the difference between “sitting” late and “working” late!!!

Very soon, the boss starts expecting all employees to put in extra working hours.

So, My dear Bachelors let me tell you, life changes when u get married and start having a family… office is no longer a priority, family is…. and

That’s when the problem starts… because you start having commitments at home too.

For your boss, the earlier “hardworking” guy suddenly seems to become a “early leaver” even if u leave an hour after regular time… after doing the same amount of work.

People leaving on time after doing their tasks for the day are labeled as work-shirkers…

Girls who thankfully always (its changing nowadays… though) leave on time are labeled as “not up to it”. All the while, the bachelors pat their own backs and carry on “working” not realizing that they r spoiling the work culture at their own place and never realize that they would have to regret at one point of time.

So what’s the moral of the story??
  •           Very clear, LEAVE ON TIME!!!
  •           Never put in extra time “unless really needed ”
  •           Don’t stay back unnecessarily and spoil your company work culture which will in turn cause inconvenience to you and your colleagues.

There are hundred other things to do in the evening..
  •           Learn music…
  •          Learn a foreign language…
  •           Try a sport… TT, cricket
  •           Importantly,get a girl friend or boy friend, take him/her around town….
  •          And for heaven’s sake, net cafe rates have dropped to an all-time low (plus, no fire-walls) and try cooking for a change.

Take a tip from the Smirnoff ad:  “Life’s calling, where are you??”

Please pass on this message to all those colleagues and please do it before leaving time, don’t stay back till midnight to forward this!!!

IT’S A TYPICAL INDIAN MENTALITY THAT WORKING FOR LONG HOURS MEANS VERY HARD WORKING & 100% COMMITMENT ETC.

PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SIT LATE IN THE OFFICE DON’T KNOW TO MANAGE THEIR TIME. SIMPLE!

Regards,
NARAYAN MURTHY”

Well, I loved the article so its posted here… I am not so poor time manager…. I have home... Family… Interests… AC & Wifi at home and I love living my life! ;-)

I am BACK!! :-)

Yayy!! I am back... Life is being great and eventful... Year started on a brilliant note when one good day I decided to resign from my bloody job! And that good day was in first week on January... ;-)

Well.. I know many of us think and just think about doing the same but they bear with the situations till the time they can... And I also stretched it till the time I could have... Then I decided to fight for myself and try to be in better place....

Phewww.... After resign, I felt like a free bird... repaired myself and gained back my self confidence... After resting for 2-3 days I started my real job! That was looking for a good place to work with interesting work..

In quest for the same I tried various ways.. I updated my CV on various job portals... Personally posted CV in the career section of good companies where I was interested and used Linkedin wisely.... All these efforts were not in vain.... After thoughtful consideration, I gave 4 interviews and after some wait I am really proud to say that I was selected in all 4... :D this boosted my confidence level even more.... After analyzing all the options I picked up a job and finally joined it in February second week...

Well... I am glad today that I decided to fight for better life... And today I feel good... I feel one should not waste time in doing something they don't like... We got one life... We have all the right to choose what to do... I understand although sometimes we are struck in certain situations which compel us to be in places we never intended to be... But honestly, one should always fight for what they deserve! As we never know where may God listen to us and change things for betterment...

Thank you once again God... I love you.... Thank you again for making me feel blessed again :D Muaah..
As expected... the time of resignation shocked me I saw the most dirtiest faces I ever imagined... Lets not spoil Pearl by writing about all that nonsense... ;-)

Thinking hard about LIFE!

I am sharing a poem I recieved in an e-mail.. I am posting it here because its something I can relate with.... Yes, Life is being different now..... And it somehow gives an idea of why its being different... Although there are other factors as well.... But, this one touched me... I loved this piece of writing and would love to share....

"Thinking hard about life How it changed from a maverick college life to strict professional life…...
How tiny pocket money changed to huge monthly paychecks but then why it gives less happiness….
How a few local denim jeans changed to new branded wardrobe but then why there are less accasions to use them
How a single plate of samosa changed to a full Pizza or burger But then why there is less hunger…..

Here I am sitting in my office at night…
Thinking hard about life How it changed…..

How a bike always in reserve changed to a car always on but then why there are less places to go on……
How a small coffee shop changed to cafe coffee day but then why it feels like shop is far away…..
How a limited prepaid card changed to postpaid package but then why there are less calls & more messages……
Here I am sitting in my office at night…
Thinking hard about life How it changed…..

How a general class journey changed to Flight journey But then why there are less vacations for enjoyment….
How an old assembled desktop changed to new branded laptop but then why there is less time to put it on……….
And last But the Most Important…..
How a small bunch of friends changed to colleageus But then why we always feel lonely & miss those college friends.….
Here I am sitting in my office at night…
Thinking hard about life How it changed…..
How it changed……."

Is it known as being successful??

Thanks Vinee for sending me this beautiful poem..
